Why Locals Call Roma Ristorante Italiano Aberdeen’s Hidden Gem

A warm welcome on Main Street

Step into Roma on South Main and you’ll often hear the same thing from diners: the staff — led by the owner — make guests feel genuinely welcome. Multiple local reviews highlight attentive service and a hospitable atmosphere that turns first-time visitors into repeat customers. That sense of being looked after is one of the first things people mention when recommending Roma.

Authentic Italian flavors that keep people coming back

Roma’s menu draws praise for traditional Northern and Southern Italian dishes prepared with clear attention to flavor. Guests consistently mention favorites such as Chicken Parmigiana, shrimp ravioli, veal, and hearty soups. Small details — like a basket of warm bread with a well-seasoned oil dressing and richly flavored tomato bases — show up again and again in reviews as examples of the kitchen’s consistency.

Standout dishes noted by locals

Several reviewers single out items worth trying: perfectly crispy chicken parm, a beloved shrimp ravioli, and a pizza with a praised crust. Those specific mentions point to a dependable kitchen that handles both classic pastas and wood-fired-style pizza well, which is why many diners recommend starting with the house bread and then sampling a signature entrée.

Hospitality and service — personal, not transactional

Reviews emphasize more than just good food: they describe staff who engage with guests, explain menu items, and accommodate families. Takeout customers report fast, accurate orders ready on arrival, while dine-in guests appreciate servers who guide choices and make the meal feel special. That level of service contributes strongly to Roma’s reputation as a neighborhood favorite.

A comfortable, date-friendly atmosphere

Roma’s dining room is described as pleasant and classically appointed — quiet enough for conversation and often recommended for dates. Some reviewers point out that the back seating minimizes sightlines to televisions, creating a calmer dining experience. The restaurant has also hosted private gatherings, and guests who’ve used the space for events note that it’s bright, clean, and roomy.

Family-friendly options and dietary considerations

Families report a welcoming approach: Roma provides high chairs and a kids menu, and staff help younger diners navigate menu names. Diners with gluten-free needs mention specific GF choices (for example, GF penne with shrimp) and appreciate the accommodation, while also suggesting the restaurant could expand GF sauce and casserole options in the future. If you have strict dietary needs, calling ahead to confirm ingredients is a good practice.

Good value and consistent quality

Locals describe the food as flavorful and well priced, noting that portions and preparation feel worth the cost. While individual tastes vary, the recurring impression across reviews is that Roma delivers quality plates without seeming overpriced, which helps explain its steady local following and recognition in regional voting.

Give yourself time — waits and parking can be a factor

A few reviewers point out practical trade-offs: popular evenings can mean longer wait times, and downtown parking can be limited. If you’re planning a weekend dinner or a special night out, consider making a reservation or arriving earlier. For takeout, guests frequently report very quick turnaround times, so ordering ahead is a convenient option.

How Roma fits into Aberdeen’s dining scene

Many locals see Roma as Aberdeen’s go-to spot for authentic Italian cuisine — a distinction reinforced by the restaurant’s consistent, positive mentions across the community. Whether you’re a visitor passing through or a resident deciding between dinner options, reviewers often compare Roma favorably for its combination of authentic flavors, hospitable service, and comfortable setting.

Practical tips for your first (or next) visit

Want to make the most of your meal? Try arriving early for popular dining times or reserve ahead, request a quieter table toward the back if you prefer low-key conversation, and consider takeout for a fast, high-quality meal. If you have dietary restrictions, call ahead to discuss gluten-free choices. And don’t skip the starter bread and one of the house specialties — those are frequently recommended by regulars.

Customer review

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolute gem! Highly recommend! From the moment you walk into Roma Ristorante Italiano, Raffi (the owner) and the entire team make you feel less like a customer and more like family. The hospitality here is genuinely unmatched! They welcome you right away with a basket of warm, soft bread paired with an oil dressing that tastes absolutely amazing. For my starter, I tried the soup of the day, which was a cheese tortellini soup with a rich tomato base—incredibly comforting and flavorful. For the main course, I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana, and it was a 10/10. The chicken was perfectly crispy, the sauce tasted incredibly authentic, and the pasta was cooked to absolute perfection. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or just want to have a nice, high-quality dinner, I would highly recommend this restaurant. I'll be coming back as many times as I can while I'm in town. Thank you, Rafi, for an amazing experience!
